The ancient market town of Brecon is an ideal base from which to explore our outstanding National Park. Brecon itself has a range of attractions, and boasts three museums. The Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery, The Military Museum (Zulu Exhibition)and the Tythebarn Heritage Centre at the cathedral.

Brecon is fast becoming a great focal point for the creative arts with art galleries specializing in Welsh art and ceramics. As well as monthly craft markets, there is a monthly antique fair and farmers market ensuring there is always something new to see and do. Go to Art Beat Brecon for more information.

The Brecon Agricultural show in August is one of the oldest in Britain and every year Brecon hosts the widely acclaimed jazz festival, a great weekend with terrific jazz and a wonderful atmosphere in the town. The Hay Festival of Literature is within easy access and attracts world famous authors.

Brecon's theatre offers a wide range of entertainment including opera, dance and touring theatre companies as well as local talent.

Within the National Park there is excellent walking, cycling, fishing, sailing, pony trekking, gliding, golf and climbing, something to suit all tastes from those seeking adventure and fun to those who prefer a leisurely stroll with some retail therapy. Brecon is ideally placed to tour Mid Wales and beyond, from Hay on Wye with it's town of book shops to The National Botanic Garden. For a full programme of activities go to Get Active Brecon.

After a great day out how about food ... well sit back and enjoy some excellent restaurants all practicing the art of "slow food" with fine dining and excellent local produce to finish off that perfect day or that special celebration.
